About Itogon, Benguet

Itogon, Benguet is a first class income municipality visited by tourists for its picturesque mountain views, hot springs, mining areas, and Binga Dam.

 

Mining is the primary industry in Itogon. There are some underground mining caves and open pits that are open for tourists. Agriculture, usually through garden farming, is the next leading industry. Vegetables and rice are the most common crops planted here. Tourism is also another thriving industry in Itogon. Tourists may go for hiking adventures, indulge with hot springs and swimming pools, as well as get a glimpse of the mummies.

 

People

Ibalois, Kankana-eys, and Ilocanos, who speak their tribal dialect, mainly inhabit the town of Itogon. Some Tagalogs and peoples migrated from nearby provinces also live in the town. The people are warm and friendly. They take pride in their culture and heritage.

People living in Itogon also speak Filipino (dialect) and English.

If you’re in Itogon, as a sign of courtesy, avoid taking pictures of the locals without their permission.

 

Climate

The climate is generally cool due to its high elevation.

 

Tourism

Balatoc Mines for underground mine tour and Antamok for open pit mine tour are some of the most visited places.

Hiking is one of the most common activities being done. There are event organizers who can arrange a trip for you. One can take photos of the scenic view from the summit of Mt. Ugo or Mt. Ulap.

One can also try visiting hot springs in Dalupirip, which is along the Agno River or the swimming pools in Level 1300, Poblacion.

Preserved cadavers (mummies) can be seen in Sitio Domolpos, Barangay Tinongdan, Itogon. Avoid taking pictures of the mummies without asking permission from your tour guide.

 

How to Get to Itogon

From Baguio City, you may ride a jeepney that can take you straight to Poblacion, Itogon. The jeepney terminal is on Rajah Soliman Street, near Baguio Center Mall.

There is also another separate jeepney line going to Tuding, Itogon via Antamok Road. The terminal is on Lakandula Street, also near Baguio Center Mall.

Special trips can also be arranged to take you to your desired destination within Itogon.
